Apart from a quick google image search, I would suggest:
  1.

The veins in marble are asymmetrical WISP services branch and tapper chance, feel free to edit source images for better composition solutions.
  2. Marble pillars have fewer veins of marble slabs – a practice that began in Crete, notably the appearance of stability – not veins weakens the structure of rock, just can seem to be cracked or unstable if there are more veins than solid composites.
Good luck to draw the veins to appear aesthetically correct first, if the image feels right, it'll look right.

Use a feather dipped in light colors. Practice a few times and it will be easy. Good luck!

Be sure to use visual references t too.

If you want to make a real Trompe-L'oeil I recommend that you go to the hardware store or wherever they sell the marble would like to have and take a nice picture or any reference documents which are to help you.

They focus on one type marlbe you like tho.

Use a large feather. Dip the edge in color and slightly wiggle as you pull along the wing.

one of the finest trompe o'oeil techniques is the definition of "vein-work" with the tip of a wing !! underpainting and overpainting how the Flemish master painters using "glaze" semi-opaque paint and varnish or a clear, transparent colors give depth and realistic shadows inside surface of the stone! sponging a kind of "halo-effect neon" for the intended 'vein' is also very effective. . . . Try trial blocks that can later be used as samples for customers or patrons you !! There are many great books "how-to" nature available. . . . Search titles at Amazon.com and e-bay.com. . . . . Book/sdesig/ntrompe o'oei/lhow-to/crafts/painting/faux-marbl … Is beautiful "cd texture" is also available with many marble and stone Breccia-type varieties of nature! i collect all i can find the "bump-map" onto 3-d Web wall surfaces do. . . . Very realistic surfaces!
