How To Maintain Travertine Marble Tiles?
Travertine is basically one type of limestone that has numerous small holes in it. Originally, these holes are created as the water runs through it. Now, it is these holes that have given travertine its unique position in the home decoration.
At the same time, it is these holes again that have made it very demanding in terms of maintenance.
The dirt and grains can easily find themselves in those holes.
So, it is important to maintain it properly and regularly. Otherwise, the dirt can discolor the stone and reduce the elegance that naturally comes with travertine. Now, the task seems to be a very challenging one. Keeping the dusts out of the holes is no doubt a very critical operation.
Sometimes, it becomes difficult to even find out all the holes in the travertine. What makes the task even more difficult is the tendency of the travertine to come up with new voids. Basically, these voids and holes are resulted from the gas bubbles that entered the stone during the formation. Subsequently, they have resulted in the number of different pores.
As a result, what we see is a stone with thousands of holes and they range from large voids to pinholes. However, there are means to fill up the holes. This is done after the stone is cut into the tiles. Epoxy fillers are used to fill the pores. Naturally, maintaining the travertine can be very difficult.
Sometimes, it can be too tricky and tiresome to be handled by the homeowners.
It is advisable in such circumstances to take the help of the professionals.
You can find a lot of them and almost all of them provide the travertine restoration program. With the help of this, the travertine in your house can get back the former look and prestige.
These days travertine is used both in the private houses as well as in the commercial complexes and public buildings. Naturally, the requirements are different in each of the categories. Keeping up to the trend of the modern world, the restoration agencies too have updated their services and many of them now, provide service for both the commercial and private travertine care. One of the problems with the travertine is that it can not be filled with any cement based grouts. This will get dirty immediately and the beautiful look of the travertine will be hampered.
So, experience of cleaning marble or any other natural stone will not help you clean travertine because of its exclusive nature and you need certain special skills.
There are different methods used by the professionals to restore the travertine.
Among them, the wet method is most suitable since it does not create any dust. Normally, the process includes the diamond abrasive pads and water. Initially, the surface is grinded with the abrasive pad.
After that, a finer pad is used to hone the surface of stone and it makes the surface smooth. Finally, the surface is polished to bring the shine. Fine diamond abrasive is used at this stage.
