Natural stones are beautiful, but require additional maintenance and sealing is not as durable as porcelain.
And you can get a nice porcelain which imitates marble or other stones less than stone.
Vinyl is more comfortable, but easily destroyed.
Wood (5 / 4 hardwood) is nice but can be damaged.
It also repaired some scratches that easily.
If it were my house I was stuck with a fine for a porcelain kitchen

I would stay away from marble in a kitchen or bathroom, because it can be very slippery when they leak.
If you use marble sure it is formatted (polished to a dull shine). This Hepp to the leak problem.
Also, marble can be porous and show rings and staining. Save the granite for your counters.
I love becaus slate has many natural colors, such as marble and hides dirt really. Make sure you use a plate so as to make sure it is guaged slate. (meaning that they are all the same thickness). This will make installation much easier.
I also believe that there are great looking tiles (porcelain) which have a great look. Just make sure the grout is the right kind. Try using Laticretes turn lock Spectra. I wear like iron and I really do not stain. Wow, have come grouts way. I hope this helps.
